The Norwegian delegation to the OSCE is pleased to announce that on 28 August 2007, Ambassador Guttorm Vik took up his duties as the new Head of Delegation and Permanent Representative of Norway to the OSCE.
“One of the best things about the Foreign Service,” says Ambassador Vik, “is that you always have to learn something new. Although I have extensive experience from working with multilateral issues, both in regional and global fora, I have up till now focused more on the economic field of cooperation than on the fields of security, democracy and human rights. The new position as Head of Delegation to the OSCE will offer an excellent opportunity to widen my knowledge in these areas and get better acquainted with some exciting countries and regions, and I am looking forward to the exceptionally interesting and important tasks that lie ahead.”
Ambassador Vik has previously served as Councellor of Embassy in Norway’s Permanent Delegation to the UN, and Director General in the Department for External Economic Relations in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 1995 to 2000, he headed EFTA’s Brussels Office, servicing the EFTA pillar in the European Economic Area (EEA), before he returned to Norway as Special Adviser in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, inter alia in charge of the Parliamentary White Paper on EEA cooperation from 1995 to 2001. From August 2003 to July 2007, Mr. Vik served as the Norwegian Ambassador to Iceland.
