Preparing for the summit in Astana

Last updated: 26/11/2010 // A series of meetings and hectic preparations this autumn is now finally to culminate in the first OSCE summit in 11 years. As chairman state for 2010, Kazakhstan is hosting the event.

The concluding part of the OSCE Review Conference ahead of the OSCE Summit will be held from 26-28 November in the Palace of Peace and Accord (the Pyramid) in Astana. Briefings for journalists by the heads of OSCE institutions and senior officials will be organized on 26-30 November at the Media Centre (the Arts University).

Representatives of the 56 countries are reviewing the progress they have made in implementing their commitments as the OSCE participating States.

The meeting in Astana forms the last segment of the three-part Review Conference. The first part was held 30 September - 8 October in Warsaw and the second part from 18-26 October in Vienna.

The Astana part of the Review Conference will include forward-looking discussions that began in Warsaw on freedom of media, intolerance against migrants and combating trafficking in human beings, with a particular focus on trafficking in children. It will also include a closing session of the Review Conference.
