Priorities for Kazakhstan's 2010 OSCE Chairmanship include addressing terrorism and other threats, working to resolve protracted conflicts, reconstruction of Afghanistan, co-operation on transport and promoting tolerance, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev and the new OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Kazakh Secretary of State and Foreign Minister Kanat Saudabayev said in their address to the OSCE Permanent Council on January 14.

17th OSCE Ministerial Council in Athens

The 17th OSCE Ministerial Council took place in Athens on 1 and 2 December 2009. The event was held at the invitation of the 2009 Chairman-in-Office, Greek Prime Minister and Foreign Minister George Papandreou.The Ministerial Council is the central decision-making and governing body of the OSCE. The meeting, held annually, provides the foreign ministers of the 56 OSCE participating States an opportunity to review and assess the Organization's activities during the past year and offer national viewpoints on security matters.

HRH The Crown Prince opened Norwegian Embassy in Kazakhstan

HRH Crown Prince Haakon officially opened the Norwegian Embassy in Astana today. Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, who is accompanying the Crown Prince on the visit, said: “The opening of Norway’s first embassy in Central Asia reflects the region’s growing international importance. Kazakhstan is a strategically important country and an increasingly important partner for Norway.”

Kazakhstan takes over OSCE Chair

On January 1st 2010 Kazakhstan took over the Chairmanship of the OSCE and reaffirmed its commitment to uphold the fundamental principles and values of the Organization, to proceed according to the interests of all participating States and to strengthen the role of the OSCE as a significant platform for dialogue contributing to security in the wider Eurasian space.

OSSE har til en hver tid mange stillinger ledig. Kontraktstillinger er åpne for individuelle søkere, uten godkjennelse av medlemsstaten der søker er statsborger. Sekonderte stillinger må imidlertid godkjennes av sekonderende stat.

Norges delegasjon til OSSE (Organisasjonen for sikkerhet og samarbeid i Europa) tar i mot én praktikant hvert høst- og vårsemester. Søknadsfrist er 15. oktober for opphold som begynner tidlig i januar/februar og 15. april for opphold som begynner i slutten av august.

The OSCE is the successor of the CSCE – the Conference for Security and Co-operation in Europe. After years of negotiations in the early 1970’s, the 35 participating States of the CSCE adopted the Helsinki Final Act at a Summit Meeting in 1975. This Final Act represented a comprehensive set of commitments covering all three dimensions of security. It was a breakthrough in the relationship between East and West in Europe and marked an important step towards the end of the Cold War.

The Permanent Delegation of Norway to the OSCE is co-located with the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Vienna, which is also the Mission of Norway to the United Nations in Vienna. In the OSCE delegation there are three diplomats, one military advisor (colonel)and one trainee, in addition to the administrative staff that is serving the Delegation and the Embassy. The following personnel are working exclusively in the OSCE-delegation.
